There are only a few peer reviewed studies which examine the results Pure Prone Positioning (PPP) below are the ones I have found. Both of these studies show significant improvement to baselines of prior OSA studies. Both peer reviewed studies say more testing needs to be done to prove the efficacy of PPP. They also decried the reasons more studies have not been done which is there simply was no easy PPP solution. With the invention of this Sleep Apnea Mattress I hope to change this. I know this mattress has measurably improved my sleep and I hope to bring this to the many others suffering from OSA.
There are though quite a few studies on positional therapy for OSA I've included one. This aspect of OSA has been studied but it involves a twisting of the neck, body or the addition of a manual device. For example several studies have been done with manual devices which keep a sleeper form rolling onto their back (like tennis balls sewn into the back of a pajama). It works for a while as long as the sleeper uses it but usage falls off over time which drives non-compliance.
The Sleep Apnea Mattress fits in a standard bed footprint and requires no special additional equipment. When ready to use the sleeper simply pulls the pillow to the side and rolls over. A simple hand movement and rolling over is all it takes, I designed this specifically so that you don't have to wake up all the way. During my second Home Sleep Test (HST) I turned over 7 or 8 times during the test (11/07/23). I DIDN'T KNOW THAT until I went over the results of the sleep test at the University Of Irvine (UCI) Sleep center. Just like you have no memories of apnea events, I had no recollections of turning over. To be fair I've gotten use to the Sleep Apnea Mattress, so your results may vary.
